I recruited my aunt & uncle for the homepage photo while they were visiting from Tennessee!  For generations, my family has been involved in ministry work, both domestically and abroad. I have been blessed to be apart of a family with such a rich heritage of service to the Lord!

Luke 10 :27, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.‘”

It’s not about the projects; it’s about people. It’s not about transactions but relations.

It’s not foreign to us that our busyness becomes a hindrance to get to know our neighbors. Sometime meetings that seem fruitless will yield more than just getting the projects done but to get to know our neighbors (meaning our fellow leaders, pastors and our families). Jesus said on John 17: 22-23, “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to com plete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” Relationship breeds unity.

So, it’s not about the ‘meeting’ itself but it’s about our connectedness with each other. It’s about being concern about others. It’s not “how-many-volunteers-can-you-send-to-me” but how can I serve you. It’s not about our agenda but it’s about the mission of love that Christ taught us. It’s not how many projects but how many new friends we met along the way. It’s not what I can get but what can I give.

Our mission starts at home. Do you want to change the world? Start in your backyard. Transformation is in direct result of the local community involvement. It is identifying the needs and resources and to mobilize our community towards transformation. It is not the projects that change our culture but it’s about how well we know our neighbors and to agree with each other that we can accomplish more together.

So, the official FHL week is over, but the relationships continue. The spirit of unity remains and propels new projects and services all around Central Indiana. It’s a lifestyle of servant leaders. That is why we have activities that go all throughout the year.

Imagine a city where people are more interested in giving than receiving. Think about a community of helping each other instead of competing against each other. Let’s believe in building neighborhood where unconditional love abounds instead of distrust and fear. This is the concept of ‘Backyard Mission’. Simple, practical and full of life.

This concept is already happening in many neighborhoods in Central Indiana. Now, let’s not stop here. It can be implemented in other cities, states and countries. It is a concept that can be adapted in any environment and cultures. We can influence any parts of the world to transform cities though the simple principles of bringing the tangible expression of God’s love to others.
